Run Like a Shark is Chasing You Virtual Run meet up 1

Run like a shark is chasing you is a virtual run where I am encouraging kids to stay active and get out and run. A virtual run is a run that you do by yourself. However this virtual run has a twist. We will meet up for 3 runs. We already have done one meet up run. The medal that the participants  will receive is the medal I designed.  Each kid will run 13.1 miles, which is a half marathon distance.
The meet ups that we are going to do are going to be on the 1st , middle mile, and the last 13.1 mile. Our first mile meet up did VERY well. We had 2 participants .  We will meet up at different locations each time to enjoy new running routes.
We met up at Little Mulberry Park. I gave a speech on how to run and how to stay with it. I handed out mark off charts for the kids to keep a record of  each mile they run. After that we started the run. After we finished the run I handed out a granola bars and a bottled water to everyone.
I had so much fun putting this together. I can't wait to do the next meet up.

Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon

Here comes the designer, he is coming across the finish line now. Sorry didn't see you there. This is the story of how I won my own medal. It started like this.
In February  of 2015 I entered a competition from Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon to have my design on there medal. After 1 months of Facebook voting my design won. I was so excited to know that I would win my own medal. I started training Immediately.  It was hard on those hot summer months but after 5 long months of training  it was finally time. My family and I went to Myrtle Beach and, the races started.
We arrived in Myrtle Beach on Friday and picked up our bib. The 5k (which my whole family would be doing) is on Saturday. The half is on Sunday. We played all day on Friday at our favorite hotel, Dunes Village Resort. They have indoor water slides, giant checkers and lots of fun activities. It's my families favorite place to stay in Myrtle Beach.
5k race day : Saturday
My whole family got up on Saturday and got dressed. We dressed up like skeletons since it was almost Halloween. When we got to the starting line everybody wanted pictures with us. I ran with my dad this race because I didn't want to do something that would accidentally injury my self since  I had a half the next day. My mom ran with my college and high school brother.
AND THERE OFF..... After we finished we stuck around for the award ceremony. To our surprise my two older brothers placed in there age division.  They were both in the same age group and my college brother won 2nd place and my high school brother placed 3rd. They both were super excited.  It really made their day.  When we got back to the hotel we played the rest of the day.
Half Marathon race day : Sunday
Race morning we got up got dressed and was on our way. When we got to the start line there were people everywhere. My mom, my older brother, and I were all very cold. I thought in my head this is going to be perfect running weather.  My mom had made shirts for us all to wear.  My shirt said, I made it and I will earn it, My mom's shirt said My son made it and I will earn it and my brothers shirt said my brother made it I will earn it.  This was my brothers first half marathon.  This was my 3rd one.
BAM. ............. AND there off. All of us felt really good and kept a 9 min mile pace. At mile 3 my dad met us to cheer us on. The race course had water stations every 1 and a half miles. My brother stayed with us the whole time. At the last .2 of a mile my brother ran ahead of us. My mom and I finished at the same time. As I crossed the finish line I heard the announcer  say "Here comes the designer, he is coming across the finish line now. I was so happy to get my medal and be done.
At the finish line my dad gave me a Pepsi bottle so I could open something with me medal.
I also met up with my teacher from last year. She also wore a shirt that said my student made it and I will earn it.
When I came across the finish line I noticed my time was soooooo good.  I was working on a great PR.  My last half time was 2:18 this race I PR'd with 2:03.  WOW!!!! All that hard training paid off!!!  I was also proud of my big brother, he had the same time just a few seconds shorter.  What a great time for his first half marathon.

My family and I stuck around for the award ceremony. As they called out names I was surprised when I heard them say, "and 3rd place winner for male 14 and under is the designer Bryson Mize". I walked up on stage and they awarded me my trophy. I was so happy and surprised !!!! How cool is this!!!  I loved the trophy it had my shark design on it also!!  MB did an awesome job with my design.  I LOVE it all!!!

This was a great race that I was able to encourage others to run with me.  My teacher, My brother, and my friends.  Each one had a great race.  I know 3 of my friends who PR'd their half marathon time.  This race will always be my favorite.

Over all this race was an excellent family getaway, great race, and an awesome time. Can't wait to do it next year.

Thank you so much awesome alpharetta!!!!!!

Snap!!! "Oh no my chain broke", I said. Oh!! Hi there. Sorry I was just talking about my Ironkids alpharetta triathlon. I did this race with my friend Copeland. The reason I did the Tri was because of  "Awesome Alpharetta".  They gave me a free entry into the race.
The distances for this run were my longest. It was a 300 yard swim, a 8 mile bike ride, and a 2 mile run!!!!!!!! I was very nervous about this race because it's my longest distance. This how it went.
I was at the swim deck getting in line for my chip. After I got my chip I got in line for the start. 1..2...3 BONK!!! The first kid was off. When my turn came I jumped in. I was swimming as fast as I could, moving my arms back and forth. Then finally I was done, now on to the bike.
When I got out of the pool I started running to transition. I pulled off my goggles and my swim cap while I was running. When I got to my bike I threw down my goggles and my cap, dried off, put on my socks and shoes, buckled my spi belt around my wast, and clipped my helmet on, and pulled my bike off my bike rack. I was on my way to the mount line.
I mounted on my bike and started the bike course. The course was a 2 mile loop, so I had to do 4 laps to get my 8 miles. The first loop was the easiest. The second loop was, Snap!!!!!!Oh no my chain broke", I said. So I had to pull over and fix the chain. The third mile was pretty hard because I was so tired. The forth mile was really hard. On the forth loop I pulled  into transition.

After the forth loop I went to the dismount line. I got off my bike and went to my station. I put my bike on the rack and threw down my helmet. After that I ran to the run course.
When I got to the run course it was shaded. I had to run two loops, so each loop was 1 mile. The whole run was shaded. At the very end of the run I sprinted to the end.
After I finished I went to the tents ,at the finish line, to got free stuff. I got a cool drink that had little balls in it. The name of it was Bubbleology. My parents loved it.
I had so much fun with Copeland on this race. I want to thank awesome alpharetta for the free entry. I loved this race and hope to do it next year.

Training

Hey guys this weekend is my Alpharetta Ironkids. So today I'm going to tell you about my training. The Tri is my longest yet.

The swim is 300 yards!!! I haven't had a problem with the swim because it is my best sport. In training I've done 300 yards in 5 minutes .

The bike on the other hand is way different. I have to go 8 miles on the bike!!!!!. The bike is definitely my weakest sport. I've done 8 miles on the bike in 37 minutes.

The running is just like the swimming. I have to run 2 miles. I've been training for my half so the run should be no problem.

I can't wait to do my blog on the actual  in the triathlon.  Watch my twitter ,10kkidrunner, for updates.

Third place by Copland Grantham

Hey guys this week for my blog I will be letting my good friend ,Copland Grantham, writing one of his many race experiences   for us. You may have remembered his name from my last blog "My Summer Races". Without further adu here is his blog.........

                        Third Place

We woke up at 3:50 ready to have a great day. That is when I realized we had a triathlon. At first I was real nervous, but after that I was fine. I got dressed and was ready to hit the road.

Once we got there we had to set up transition and get our race packets. We got all of our things set up and went to the pre race meeting. We waited a while and then it was race time. After we got lined up we hit the pool.

My race was 4 laps and was not very challenging. After I finished the pool I sprinted to transition. I put my biking stuff on then I started the trail.
This was a 3 mile trail and a lot of people were on it so I had to weave through the people. After I finished the bike I went back to transition took off my bike stuff and finished strong.
The run trail was ½ mile and I tried to go as fast as I could to the finish line. When I crossed I wasn't quit sure I placed ,but I had good feeling that I did.

After the race it stormed so they did the award ceremony fast. I was not 100 percent sure I placed until they called 10 year old boys and said “3rd place Copeland Grantham!” It was an awesome experience placing third. by Copland Grantham

I hope all of you enjoyed that. This race was held at the Atlanta Kids Triathlon at the West Gwinnett Park and Aquatic Center. Hopefully I can do this race with Copeland next year.

My Summer Races

My Summer Races

I know I haven't been blogging lately. It's because I have only done two races this summer . Plus it's been really hot, but now I'm back on track.

Both of my races this summer have been triathlons. I'm going to talk about both today. The first Tri I did was the Kids Tri the Y in Athens. The second was the Hamilton Mill Tri. Both of these races were excellent.

I'm going to talk about the Kids Tri the Y first. I did this race with my two friends Copland and Kurali. The race was a 150 yard swim, a 4 mile bike ride, and a 1.5 mile run.

Race Day

AND THERE OFF!!!!!!! We did 3 laps in the pool, 4 laps for the biking, and 1 big loop for the run. In the swim course I passed a lot of people. On the bike I was slowish. Finally, on the run I passed a few people.

After I was done I went to watch my friends participate in there age group. After every one was done they had the award ceremony. Sadly none of us placed, but we were all winners because we had fun.

I liked the Kids Tri the Y because it was local and fun.
_________________________________________________________________________________

Hamilton Mill Tri.was held in Early summer.  It is one of my favorites.

I did this Tri with the same two friends, Copeland and Kurali,. The race took place in Hamilton Mill GA. The Tri was a 100 yard swim, 4 mile bike ride, and 1 mile run.

1..2..3 BOOONK, And they are off. We did 2 laps in the pool then 4 miles on the bike course and did 1 mile on the run. The swim was pretty easy. On the bike there were a couple of hills so it was sorta hard. The run was the hardest through. there was 1 lap on the run and one way it was all uphill, but the other was all down hill.

After everyone was done with the race they had the award ceremony. To my surprise  I did  get an award for 2nd place in my age group with a time of 19:53 .

Then we got a coupon for a free snow cone so we went to get one.

After that we also got a coupon for the IHOP so we went there for brunch.

The Hamilton Mill Tri was a very nice run. I especially liked that we got free IHOP and snow coneS.

Races are always more fun with friends.  I'm so glad that I was able to share these awesome days with my great friends.

I'm a designer too?? ;-) Myrtle Beach here I come. THANK YOU ALL!!!

As a homeschooler my mom and I are always looking for fun, creative activities that I can do. When I heard about the Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon medal competition I was stoked. I could use my creative talents, I like to draw.  It would be a cool thing to design my own medal.  Last year I wanted to run the half but, I did't train. However I did train and run the 5k.

This is my family and I running the 5K and my mom after her half marathon.

When designing the medal I had to follow a few of the medal  rules.  They were, it had to have 3 colors, be shaped like a surf board, had to have bottle opener, and the background color had to be bronze or silver. I used the color blue because It's my favorite.  I drew the state of SC on it because I thought it was needed and made the medal look cool.  I put the sun on the medal because everyone has fun in the sun while at Myrtle Beach.  I thought it would be fun for a shark to be the bottle opener.  When I was done I sent in my medal design and waited for people to vote for it. After a long time of waiting I finally won.

I really like how the computer design made my medal come to life.  The artist that works for Myrtle Beach Mini did an awesome job.  I love the added palm trees and the date makes it perfect.

I have some awesome friends that are running the race because of me since I designed the medal. During the half we are going to dress up in the same colors as the medal. So be on the look out for us all.

I want to thank everyone who supported me in the voting contest. My goal of running Myrtle Beach and earning my medal has just became real.  I have already started training and will keep on so that that I can earn my design.

I can't wait to cross the finish line and for my dad to hand me a cool glass bottle Coca-Cola, so that I can pop it open with my shark medal!!!

I want to congratulate Mr. Anthony the 2nd place winner. His medal will be the 5k medal. My family and I will also be running the 5k this year and earning his awesome design.

My goal is to encourage others to be active and healthy.
If your goal is to run Myrtle beach then sign up fast because the price goes up on May 15th. You can sign up here, tell them Bryson the medal designer sent you :-)  http://www.runmyrtlebeach.com/

5 Points of life kids marathon

I just participated in the Five Points of Life Foundation and Life South Community Blood Center marathons for kids. This is one of my favorite runs because it is held at the Cool ray fields. The Cool Ray fields is at the Gwinnet Braves stadium. It started at 9:00 am.
What is a kids marathon? We complete 25 miles before race day and log it on a log sheet. On race day kids line up and run 1.2 miles around Cool Ray fields.
Who can participate? Any kid Kindergarden through 8th grade can participate.

REGISTRATION
Registration is free. All participates will receive a race packet, bib, t-shirt, and a medal. My mom registered me athttp://www.fivepointsoflife.com/kids-marathons-2/kids-marathon-atlanta/  . They also have other events.

My brother and his friend also came along and did it with me. We are getting our bibs.

There were lots of sponsor tables. One of them were the Atlanta hawks table where I got a free jersey.
There were lots of characters at this race.

Here's the starting line where I ran my last 1.2 miles of a marathon.

I actually got to run on the field where the Gwinnet Braves play there games!!!!!!!!!

After 26.2 long miles ;) we are awarded our marathon medals.

After the race we went to Bojangles to refuel.

Inside our packet we got two free Gwinnet Braves tickets.

I think this was a very nice run and I would encourage kids to do this next year. They never disappoint.

Mom Note:
10kkidrunner is right this is an awesome event for kids.  It's a great way to get your kids moving and staying active.  I don't know about you parents but our family struggles finding the right balance between screen time and active time.  This event helps find that balance.  10kkidrunner and his brother had to run their mile before devices could be turned on.  Once outside they found that they enjoyed the fresh air and a lot of the time the outside activity time became more fun than their screen time.
This  5Points of Life event is one of many.  Please check their website for more info and to see if there is an event near you.

Chick-fil-a #2 Half Marathon

I just finished my 2nd half marathon. It was the Chick-fil-a half marathon in Athens, Ga. My goal for this run was to  P.R and I DID!!!!. My time last year was 2:21. My time this year was 2:18.

At packet pickup we saw and took a picture with this cute kid cow.  I got my bib and shirt.

At hibachi steakhouse with mom's friends who ran the race getting carbed up. Hibachi is one of my favorite meals.  I love that they cook in front of you.  I got the Steak meal.

Morning of the race!!!!  In coral ready for 13.1 miles. Chick-fil-a encourages you to dress as a cow.  I dressed as Captain Cow. I made my shirt and my mom made my mask.

Dad rocking his Captain America shirt cheering me on.

Train running way faster than me and mom.;) We ran right under this track.  I was kinda cool to be "ran" over by a train.

Taking a selfie with a cow. This race is kinda like a Disney race, you can see characters on the course.  This cow character was around mile 7 or 8ish.

Getting my awards from cows, which was lots of free Chickfila coupons!!!!

Me with my 1st place age group bell and my 3d place costume contest bell.

Me and my moms friends all proud of our loot.

Chick-fil-a half marathon will always be a special race for me.  I love that they give out free chicken biscuits for recovery fuel.  Can't wait for next year and the years after that.  The Connect people really do a good job at race planning.
